-- a SWAT member wins disability award
A late-deafened British member of a SWAT team was fired from
his job because of his hearing loss. He filed a lawsuit
to get his job back. He half-won, half-lost. He was not
able to get his job back but he was awarded full
disability.
-- a national problem with deaf prisoners
Deaf prisoners, and we have too many of them,
have problems with interpreting services and
getting relay services. They also have another
problem, that has not been getting much attention
lately. Many deaf prisoners have been physically
abused, not by their fellow cellmates, but by
guards. When guards yell at them, they get angry
when the deaf prisoners do not respond. As a
result, these guards get physical with them.
