- one of Australia's Top 10 inventions
Australia was celebrating its own Australia Day last week
and the nation was honoring its own Top 10 inventions. One of
the Top 10 was deaf-related - the CI!
- what is the most important thing for a deaf job hunter?
A hearing person who helps find jobs for the deaf and the
disabled, said the most important thing is - to make
it to the interview! Many human resources directors do not
give interviews; instead they throw the job applications
into the waste basket. So, if you are deaf and make it to
the interview, you have achieved the most important step!
- a deaf teacher in a hearing classroom in England
Kathy, whose last name is not known, is a young deaf woman
who was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland but moved to Sussex,
a city in England. She is a teacher of hearing children in a
classroom. It is not known if she speaks orally or uses
sign language. For some reason, the short newspaper story
did not mention her last name.
- the Netflix list of subtitled movies
We either love or hate Netflix because of their bad
reputation of not captioning their films. Well, a
deaf activist ran a list of Netflix movies that
are subtitled. The count is nearly 675 films;
this activist is still counting.
- Super Bowl on TV promises to be fully captioned
There was a big announcement yesterday that the
Super Bowl on Sunday will be fully captioned, meaning
the game itself, the commercials and all that.
It was the NFL and the FOX that jointly made that
announcement. Is it a fact or just a promise?
We will have to wait until Sunday to turn on the
TV set to find out. We are wary because of these
years of false promises!
