-- a disabled deaf woman fired for parking in disabled parking area
Hard to believe. Kaiser of Oregon fired a disabled deaf woman, for
parking her car at the disabled parking area. She was attending
a Kaiser workshop and parked her car at the disabled parking spot,
with the disabled permit hanging on the windshield. When workshop
ended, she went to her car, but it was blocked by a Kaiser bus.
The driver refused to move the bus. It resulted in an argument.
The Kaiser management, after hearing about it, fired her. She has
filed a lawsuit, accusing Kaiser of discriminating against deaf
and disabled employees.
-- No support for Deaflympics participants in United Kingdom
UK Sport, the governing body of British Olympics and Winter
Olympics teams, just tripled their funding for their athletes.
UK Sport also provided more money for its Paralympic athletes.
For the deaf - zero funds! Sounds pretty much familiar in USA.
How much money was involved? £31 million or 53 million in USA
dollars!
-- one interpreter or two interpreters?
Sometimes we have just one interpreter. Sometimes we have two
interpreters. Why one? Why two? Depends on the interpreting
assignment. The Registry for Interpreters for the Deaf has
a rule that if an assignment is for more than two hours,
then it is two interpreters. Anything shorter than two hours
may require only one interpreter. The workshop host, however,
may ask for two interpreters for short assignments, though.
