DeafDigest - 02 June 2016

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, June 2, 2016   -- jumping from one side of fence to another side It was learned that FCC has lost Deaf Community's best friend in Greg Hlibok. He has accepted a new position with a relay provider. This is interesting - FCC has reduced, on an annual basis, the payouts to these relay providers - pushing a few out of business. Now Greg is with a relay provider that is urging FCC to raise, not reduce the rates. Will he succeed? He did the impossible - orchestrating the Deaf President Now rally that forced a stubborn hearing educator out of her Gallaudet presidency. Another miracle up in Greg's sleeve? Hope so! A picture at: http://deafdigest.com/historic-deaf-picture/   -- a shocking finish to a TV program that will close According to Hollywood spies, Switched at Birth, in its last season of showing, will have a finish that is shocking and unforgettable. What is it? Don't know, but it is still shocking, anyway!   -- a most amazing deaf person Faye Frez-Albrecht, who will be a Gallaudet junior this coming fall, is a member of Galladuet women's swimming team. She just performed an amazing feat - finishing in third place in her age group at nation's biggest Two-mile open water swimming race in Virginia. Why is it amazing? She is deaf-blind. To get ready for that big meet, she trained with two Gallaudet swimming coaches, and they swam together as a group in that race. Unlike races in a swimming pool, open water races are rough and physical. Yet she survived and finished third in her age category.   Latest deaf jobs: http://deafdigest.com/category/jobs/ Barry's collections of past articles (with today's update) -- deaf cocktail drink http://deafdigest.com/collections/barrys-collections/ 05/29/16 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
