DeafDigest - 02 October 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, October 2, 2013 -- New York Times prints a story of a deaf 50-year New York Mets employee Tod Tillotson, a graduate of New York School for the Deaf, was written up in the New York Times. He has worked for the New York Mets for 50 years, the longest of all other employees. He is in the Special Services department. So important he is that when he is on vacation, the Mets has to find three people to do his work! He started his job at Shea Stadium, now demolished, and is now Citi Field. Said a friend - Tod has seen the birth and death of Shea Stadium. The biggest irony is that he was a New York Yankee fan before the Mets hired him. Tod had to suppress his love for the Yankees to continue his job with the Mets!     -- British Gas company asks deaf to pay for their text messages! British Gas is a big utility company, serving the nation with gas and electricity. It is hated by British people and they voted for it as the nation's worst utility company. Anyway, to serve its deaf customers, the company has a text number. But when deaf people send texts to discuss their utility bills, the company charges them money for these text calls! Activists are very angry about it.     -- a British council says deaf children are a waste In Bromley, part of London, a group of parents of the deaf are upset. They wanted the Bromley council to continue paying for educational services for deaf children. The Bromley council does not want to pay, and wants these children transferred to another school district. One of the council members said these deaf children are a waste of money, calling them rubbish. Hard to believe someone would say that!   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 09/29/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 09/29/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
