DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, September 2, 2016 -- a TV commercial on cars for the deaf We always see TV captioned commercials on new cars. But Fox Automotive, a Detroit dealership has come up with a twist. Their commercials are signed. Doing the signing is Rick Hodges, the General Manager of Fox Automotive's VW and Toyota dealerships. Rick is ASL-fluent. He said deaf customers loved it. A picture is at: http://35.182.75.222/signed-tv-car-commercials/       -- deaf participation in the Chess Olympiad Starting today in Azerbaijan is the Chess Olympiad (hearing), involving 182 teams. One of these teams is from the International Chess Committee of the Deaf. Tnis deaf group consists of best deaf players from all over the world. They may not know each other's sign language to communicate but they can communicate in chess-talk! This is a special rule by the Chess Olympiad that allows the deaf, the disabled and the blind teams to compete against all other national chess teams! It is same as Deaf International Athletic group competing in the Hearing Olympics. It has never happened, except Chess.     -- an addition to Deaf House In a Deaf House, a deaf resident is supposed to see everything around him, with no barriers and to feel the vibrations. One thing is missing - sounds! To overcome lack of sounds, a new company is coming up with a set of devices that will alert the deaf to all kinds of sounds they would otherwise be unaware of. This would be a perfect fit for the Deaf House.     Latest deaf jobs: http://deafdigest.com/category/jobs/ Barry's collections of past articles (with today's update) -- a twist helped pass a free tty law http://deafdigest.com/collections/barrys-collections/ 08/28/16 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
