DeafDigest - 03 December 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, December 3, 2013 -- good news for deaf individuals that want to be truck drivers Earlier this year the federal government allowed only 40 interested deaf truckers to drive trucks. Now, the federal government may allow more and more deaf truckers to drive trucks. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said they are willing to accept applications from future deaf truckers. This is great news.   -- Derrick Coleman and NFL's craziest touchdown in history! As mentioned in yesterday's DeafDigest, Derrick Coleman, who is deaf, was going to play in last night's game between his Seattle Seahawks team and the New Orleans Saints. He scored a touchdown, the first and only deaf player in NFL history to make a touchdown (Bonnie Sloan and Kenny Walker, past deaf players, played defense). The way Derrick scored was probably the craziest touchdown in NFL history! A pass was thrown to a teammate. The ball, however, hit the teammate on his face mask and bounced up in the air. Derrick, who was nearby, grabbed the ball and dived in for the touchdown. It was the buzz of the evening. Oh, yes, Seattle won the game easily, 34-7   -- a Deafville village In Dadhkai, a hidden village in the northern part of India, there are 47 families in one neighbhorhood. Each single family has at least one deaf family member. Altogether, that village has 92 deaf individuals. This has been going on since 1931. Why the high numbers of deaf people in that village? Just one word - interbreeding! This problem will get worse before it gets better.   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 12/01/13 Blue edition at: http://deafdigest.com/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 12/01/13 Gold edition at: http://deafdigest.com/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
