-- ASL town's most famous person
Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts was known as ASL town
years ago because just about everyone, both deaf and
hearing, used sign language. Was there a "famous" deaf
person living in that town? Yes. It was Benjamin Dexter,
who owned an ice cream parlor in the late 19th century.
He sold ice cream and coconut cakes, a popular treat
in Martha's Vineyard. Plus he was the town's best
wood carver. Many of the wood models in the town
came from his hands. Unfortunately a fire destroyed
his store!
-- another new glasses for movie captions
We already know about the Caption Glass. There is
another one - Invisivision. What is the difference?
Caption Glass uses battery and shows captions only
on the lenses of the glasses. Invisivision does not
use battery and catches captions two different
ways - captions from the movie screen or captions
from the lenses of the glasss. Double captions?
Not really - the movie viewer will have a choice -
to watch screen captions or the lenses captions -
depending on personal comfort and eye strain.
Which is better - Caption Glass or Invisivision?
It is a personal choice and personal comfort.
- just one deaf handyman in the state of Georgia
Does the state of Georgia have only just one
deaf handyman? There was a story in a newspaper
today of a deaf handyman that lives in Cherokee
County in Georgia. He said he is the only
handyman in Georgia? The story said he can do
anything in the house. You name it and he will
do it. Really the only one in Georgia? DeafDigest
does not believe the story!
