-- a deaf Deputy Commissioner of a region
Maniram Sharma, who is deaf, is the Deputy Commissioner
of the Mewat district in India. His exact job title is
IAS officer (Indian Administrative Service). In India,
candidates must pass civil service exams before they
can be appointed to high posts. He passrf the IAS exam
three times, but they wouldn't appoint him because of
his deafness. Finally on the third try, the government
officials decided to appoint him as the Deputy Commissioner.
What does he do? Everything to make the region run
smoothly - collecting taxes, setting up staff meetings,
setting up the budget, hiring and firing, establishing
policies, etc. Sharma must come from a well-do to family,
being a success that he is? No. Most of his family
members are illiterates, but he rose above them.

-- now or never for Nyle
Deaf super model Nyle DiMaro is in the running for the
finale, shown on TV on Friday night December 4th.
Several deaf clubs are hosting Nyle DiMarco nights
that he will be rooted on by his deaf fans. Even
a magazine for the hard of hearing and hearing aid
users are rooting for Nyle! Regardless of who wins
tomorrow night we must realize it was supermodel
Tyra Banks who personally recruited him for the
show. If not for her, Nyle would be doing something
else!
-- a filmmaker said he is afraid deaf will get hurt
Sometime ago DeafDigest mentioned that filmmaker
Michael Ojeda would not cast a deaf actress to play
the lead role in an action movie. His reason is that
he was afraid the deaf will get hurt more than the
than the hearing! Ojeda does not know the history
of deaf athletes and deaf performers - movie stunts,
motorcyle racing, pro football, martial arts fighting,
etc.
