-- a deaf man will challenge the bulls
Every year a famous tradition in Spain takes place - the Spanish
Bull Run at Pamplona. It starts on July 6th and ends on 13th.
Many, many brave men, from all over the world, will try to run
ahead of bulls and hope not to get gored, or even worse, get
killed. Every year for the past 15 years, Sergio Colas, a deaf
Spaniard, participates in the Bull Run. He was once scraped on
the back by the horn of a bull, but other times, he successfully
outran the bulls. He will run again this week.
-- A deaf player at the Wimbledon tennis tournament
The Wimbledon is one of the most famous tennis tournaments in
the world. Winning the championship is a goal that all tennis
pros dream about. And this week at the Wimbledon, there was
a deaf tennis player. Lee-Duck Hee, who is deaf and is 15 years
old and from South Korea. He competed in the Wimbledon junior
boys division. Unfortunately he didn't win and was eliminated.
Hope he will come back again next year.
-- a mixed up ADA in Japan
In Japan, our ADA is called Disability Discrimination Dissolution Bill.
(DDDB). Our ADA tells us what is discrimination and what is not
discrimination. In Japan, it is up to every government agency to
decide what is DDDB and what is not DDDB. In other words, one agency
may decide that something discriminates against the deaf, but another
agency may say the same thing is NOT discrimination. It is a big joke!
The Japanese deaf hate the DDDB.
