-- A relay provider files a lawsuit against Mr X !
A relay provider has filed a lawsuit against Mr X, a deaf
man. He was harassing the relay employees for six years
with ugly sign language comments. To find him, the relay
provider knows his area code and his wireless provider, but
needs to know his secret name. The wireless provider knows
it but won't give it to the relay provider. The court may
order the wireless provider to give the relay provider the
name of that abusive deaf man. Then the lawsuit will proceed.
-- An ugly choice with an Asian family
In an Asian nation, a hearing father of two children,
is poor. He can afford to buy just one hearing aid, but
has no money for a second hearing aid.
Which deaf child will get that hearing aid? This is a
choice that is driving the father crazy.
Hopefully a social service agency will contact that
father and pay for the second hearing aid.
-- A hearing actress thanks a deaf teenager
Kirstie Steele, not deaf, plays the role of deaf character
Imogen Stewart in the Waterloo Road TV series, shown in Great
Britain. Kirstie knew nothing about deafness and had to
depend on advice from Casey, a deaf teenager. Kirstie
has thanked Casey for her advice on how to play the deaf
role. But DeafDigest wonders why not give the deaf role to
deaf Casey instead of giving it to hearing Kirstie?
-- A Deaf person arrested of Voting Fraud
Foday Mattia, a deaf man in Sierra Leone, was arrested by
the police, because of Voting Fraud. He registered twice
in July to vote in the national election next month. The
police did not communicate with him; did not provide him
with an interpreter and kept him in jail for several weeks
with no formal charges. Foday was freed when a representative
from the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues had the
judge throw out the case.
