-- deaf devices entered in a design contest
The James Dyson Foundation is offering money to top finalists
in its design contest. Many entries have been submitted - and
there are two deaf devices - one is an artificial finger
for deaf signers that have lost their fingers; it is being
created by 3D scanning; the other one is a "super" hearing aid
that promises to be better than a CI!
-- A to Z fingerspelling by 26 famous hearing people
Johnny Corcoran is deaf and is a professional photographer
in Dublin, Ireland. He just completed a two-year project,
traveling across Ireland and taking photographs of famous
hearing Irish people. His project is called "Signs of
Life" and it shows each famous person with a fingerspelled
letter, from A to Z. These famous people are - a soccer player,
an author, a celebrity chef, a TV newscaster, a musician,
a champion surfer, etc.
-- a surprise ambition of a deaf gardener
Ashton Hnatuk is a deaf gardener in the Canadian city
of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He has this ability to
grow fresh vegetables that other hearing gardeners
are not able to do so. The Swadesh Supermarket
chain buys Ashton's vegetables. They are saying it
is difficult to grew these types of vegetables in
the Saskatchewan province. Yet, Ashton's ambition
is a big surprise. He wants to become a plumber,
and is looking to enroll in a vocational program!
