-- the deaf and the harbormaster's office
Habormasters are responsible for traffic with boats,
yachts and ships that enter and leave the harbors.
At the Broastairs harbormaster's office on the
shores of Great Britain, there is a deaf connection.
People entering the office will see a special logo
at the entrance. It was designed by Thomas Powell.
He is deaf and he was honored in a special unveiling
cermony recently.
-- a magic hearing aid
A hearing aid that produces magic? Well, a group of
Scottish engineers have come up with a new hearing
aid. It will lipread. Hearing aids that lipread?
This hearing aid comes up with a hidden camera that
copies the speaker's lips to help the deaf person.
Is it another "magical" device that will help
the deaf to hear? Time will tell.
-- a Gallaudet connectiion with the NFL draft
NFL fans follow the draft, hoping that their
favorite teams will select the players that
will lead them to the Super Bowl. Gallaudet
connection? Two years ago, Gallaudet entered
the NCAA-III football playoffs for the first
time in history, facing Hobart. One of the
Hobart players was offensive tackle Ali
Marpet. He was the 61st player selected in
the draft, in the second round by the
Tampa Bay Bucs. It is always a thrill
when Gallaudet plays against a future
pro, be it football, baseball or
basketball.
