-- deaf not allowed to use text pagers
In the African nation of Congo, Joseph Kabila,
the president, does not allow people to send
text messages. They can use voice with their
pagers. The deaf can't, and they're very
upset about it.
-- must voice out in English language
At casinos in British Columbia, there is a
rule that conversation during poker games
must be in English. Two deaf friends,
playing poker together, were not allowed
to use ASL while communicating with each
other. They filed a discrimination lawsuit
-- and lost!
-- telephone calls at two deaf restaurants
At Cafe Signes in Paris (3 hearing, 6 deaf),
a hearing employee handles all telephone
calls. At The Mozzeria in San Francisco
(deaf-owned), telephone calls turn on
the white flashing signalers. It bothered
the hearing patrons. The deaf owners had to
change from bigger white to smaller special
color flashers, and everyone is happy.
