DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, January 5, 2016 -- a theater critic angry about Spring Awakening A theater critic wrote an article, expressing his anger about the Spring Awakening play on Broadway. He said it is hearing-friendly but not deaf-friendly. The ASL created for the play is difficult for the deaf to understand. This has been an old issue for years, beginning with The National Theatre of the Deaf and now with Deaf West. The past Deaf West artistic director told DeafDigest editor that hearing audiences is where the money is, all the more reason for making plays friendly to them.
