DeafDigest - 05 June 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, June 5, 2013 -- a deaf family in Oklahoma tornado A deaf family lost their home in a recent Oklahoma tornado. There was a tornado warning in the town; hearing people heard it. The deaf family did not know about it. And there was no communication between the deaf family and the emergency people that came to help without interpreters. FEMA a joke? Emergency text 911 systems a joke? Emergency responder groups a joke?     -- a different way to win money in Deaflympics fundraising Many of our best Deaflympics athletes worry about fundraising. One deaf athlete was lucky. She appeared on a TV contest - Queen for a Day - and won enough money to pay for her participation in the Deaflympics! It was Caroline Skedsmo, now Schmitz, a track participant in the Deaflympics - in Year 1961 at Helsinki, Finland!     -- a hearing criminal gives up Recently a hearing criminal, tired of running away and hiding from the police for more than a year, decided to give up and to be arrested. What was his crime? Forcing a group of deaf people to steal things from hearing people for 5 years. Where did all of this happen? Not in USA, but in small Chinese towns.   06/02/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 06/02/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
