-- a new deaf female truck driver
Hoping to become a full time truck driver is a deaf woman -
Sandy Sloat. She just graduated from Amarillo College's Truck
Driving Academy, and is now seeking a full time job. Her
background is quite unusual - a B.S. degree in Biology and
then obtaining another degree in welding. Why truck driving?
She loves to travel!
-- a trapped deaf person
When the earthquake hit Nepal, many mountaineers, climbing
on the Mt Everest, were trapped - and had to wait to be
rescued. One of these trapped mountaineers was a deaf
man - Mark Grimes of United Kingdom. He said he saw
the destruction with his own eyes, and it has become
a nightmare for him.
-- a merger that the deaf opposes
There is a merger of a sign language research center and a
research center on hearing health matters (ear, CI, hair
cells, etc). It is happening in India - the merger
between Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre
and the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing
Handicapped (sort of NIH in USA). The deaf community
in Mumbai is fighting this merger, saying both groups
should be kept separate. Could this happen in USA?
