-- Derrick Coleman's easy touchdown almost never happened
Derrick Coleman, who is deaf, with his Seattle team,
beat the Green Bay Packers 36-16 in the season's NFL
opener. Derrick made his touchdown look easy, but
it almost never happened! Why? Two plays earlier,
Derrick was taken out of the game. One of the Packers
"tore off" his helmet, that had his hearing aid in it.
On the sidelines the equipment manager quickly got
the helmet repaired and made sure hearing aid was
fine before he was sent back into the game! Alas,
the easy touchdown.
-- Coca-Cola interested in hiring more deaf
Coca-Cola just said they may be interested in hiring
more deaf. Reason is that on the factory floor, the
bottling line noise is so bad that it bothers hearing
employees. The bottles and the cans are always banging
against each other on the conveyor belts. Said a
Coca-Cola spokesperson "they are more suitable than
other workers."
-- a Joan Rivers deaf "joke" that backfired
Joan Rivers, who was famous for her mouth, has
departed us. The entertainment world is in mourning.
Below is a reprint of what DeafDigest posted few
years ago:
Famous comedian Joan Rivers made a joke about Helen Keller.
The audience roared with laughter; one person did not laugh.
He shouted at her saying that it was not funny because his
son was deaf.
Sad to say, in the world of comedy, one person's joke is
another person's insult.
