-- a horrible revenge against a hearing aid dealer
A father of a deaf daughter was angry, thinking he
was being ripped off by a hearing aid dealer in
the fancy part of Manhattan. He said that the
hearing aid was defective. What did he do? He
sent a letter to the dealership. In the letter
was white powder. Two employees were exposed
to it. The hazmat team came over, closing off
the office, cleaning up the two contaminated
employees, and trying to figure if it was toxic
(ricin or anthrax). Police investigation is
continuing. As of right now, there are no leads.
-- singers and musicians hate interpreters?
Why do many singers and musicians hate interpreters? There are three
reasons. First, they feel an extra person (interpreter) is one person
too many on the stage. Second, they feel the interpreter steals the
show. Third, they feel an interpreted event is more of an event for
the deaf than an event for the hearing. Are they correct with their
objections? No way! We need more and more interpreters for more
musical events!
-- a deaf race horse driver wins $2 million in 2013
Rick Macomber, who is deaf, is a professional race horse
driver (trotters) in Indiana. He has been racing professionally
since the late nineties. It is his full time job, and he is
the only Gallaudet graduate that participates in a professional
sport. How did he do in 2013? He won 11 percent of his races,
earning total purse winnings of $2,001,103. How does he compare
with other competing drivers? He is 6th ranked driver at the
Hoosier Park, and this race track has many, many drivers, almost
all of which do not perform that well. Is Rick pocketing the
whole two million dollars in his pockets? No. It means he
won two million in purses for the owners that trust him to
race their horses. He gets a percentage of these purse winnings.
