-- a surprise sell-out at an event
Do deaf people (or hearing people) like to go to
Drive-in movies? It was popular way back in
1950's and 1960's but is no longer popular
nowadays. Yet, there is a surprise - open
captioned movies (Jurassic and San Andreas)
was shown at a drive-in theater in Kansas
City, KS. 700 people watched these movies -
the attendance count was 400 deaf patrons
and 300 hearing patrons!
-- a nightmare for a Deaf-Blind person
At a recent earthquake in the The Philippines,
a deaf-blind person was trapped. He did not
know what was going on - and no one came to
his attention. Emergency responders came
and left - not knowing how to deal with a
deaf-blind person. It took several hours
before an interpreter, that knows how
to communicate with the deaf-blind,
came to his rescue. He was so angry
that he made a video out of it.
