-- the angry restaurant waiter
A hearing boyfriend treated his deaf girlfriend to
a dinner in London. The waiter took the order
but wondered why the girl was "ignoring" him,
not realizing she was deaf. After being "ignored"
too many times, the waiter lost his temper and
screamed at her, accusing her of ignoring him.
This is not a joke; it actually happened.
The hearing boyfriend, without telling the
waiter of her deafness, managed to calm him
down and gave a nice tip! A picture is at:

-- hearing animals instead of deaf humans
Peter Hauser, deaf, is a well respected neuroscientist
at NTID, studying these deaf brains. In college, he
he made Animal Sciences his career goal. Reason is
that he thought a deaf scientist is better off
working with animals instead of humans. After
all, animals don't talk back and don't care if you
are deaf. Eventually he learned sign language and
realized he can really work with with deaf humans
instead of hearing animals!
-- anger among delegates at NAD Conference
The NAD Conference is going on right now, and
the delegates are already angry. The hot issue
is video relay providers, because of the FCC
policy, requiring deaf users to disclose
their social security numbers. Invasion of
privacy plus identity theft is what the
delegates are saying. Possibly the relay
providers would agree with the deaf users,
but they are stuck - because of FCC rules.
