-- a big issue facing Amish families
Deafness among newly born babies have become a
big issue among the Amish families. As a closed
group, not open to society, the young Amish
intermarry with each other - and this leads
to deafness, among other birth defects.
The Amish of Clark, Missouri have agreed to
allow outsider teachers to come in and teach
their deaf children. In the past, it was
unthinkable - but times have changed.
-- deaf people not wanting to hear
Do deaf people want to hear? Or they
do not want to hear? An Italian posting
(translated to English) said that deaf people
reject CI's because they don't want to hear.
Really? Deaf people do not want to hear -
because - they cannot understand what they
hear! No point in hearing constant sounds,
noises and voices all day without
understanding what these are.
