DeafDigest - 07 June 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, June 7, 2013     -- Chopped chef Kurt Ramborger promoted to Facebook Celebrity status! Kurt was chopped even though he did a fantastic job of preparing his dishes. Yet, it helped Facebook promote him to Celebrity status! Facebook has a rule that if a person has 5,000 friends, he needs to be promoted to Celebrity status, like these movie stars and politicians. He is currently the Executive Chef of the Marakesh Grill & Cafe, North Austin, Texas.     -- Videophones at a public facility There are rows of videophones on the Gallaudet campus and the NTID campus. What about a public facility such as an airport or a railroad terminal? There is one at a railroad station in one of the world's biggest cities. Where is it? New York? Chicago? Los Angeles? No - it is in Tokyo at the Japan Railways station.     -- a future sign language movie film A new movie is coming up, and it is in sign language. The name of the movie is "Gesture" and Kannada is the primary language. Kannada? It is a language spoken in the southern part of India. The movie itself, is sign language that will be translated into 99 different languages! Bubbles will be shown on the screen to tell the audience (in their own language) what the characters are saying. It is being directed by Sairam Shankar, a well known figure in the film industry in India.     06/02/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 06/02/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
