-- A confession by a famous deaf person
Almost all of us have computers and e-mail addresses;
some of us have own websites. Fewer and fewer deaf
people own a TTY. What about Ann Silver, the famous
deaf artist? It was revealed in her biography,
written by James W. Van Manen "One Way; Deaf Way"
(2012) that she was embarrassed by the fact that
she does not own a computer or have an email address
or use a web site to promote her art works. She
just uses the TTY, like the way we all did years
ago!
-- a Woojer for the deaf
A Woojer for us, the deaf! What is a Woojer, by the
way? It is the size of a matchbook that is clipped
to a shirt and allows the deaf to feel vibrations
from music from the computer. Why is it called
the Woojer? It is the name of a company that
is manufacturing this vibration product.
-- Lucky for deaf to live in USA
We are lucky to live in USA where we have ADA.
In England, voice telephone (without relay) is required
to make doctor appointments. In hospitals, requests
for interpreters requires a wait of several weeks.
No TV captions or subtitles on hospital room TV
sets. Most British doctors would not sign up
for video interpreter services.
