-- a picture we hate
Deaf people hate this picture, that was taken
in 1927. Please click on the link to understand
why this picture was hated:

-- a Deaf Red Seal
In Canada, to be a Red Seal means the person is one of
the best in his vocational skills. This also means the
Red Seal person can work anywhere in Canada without
having to re-take the provincial vocational exams
again to get license. Jonathon Anderson, who is
deaf, earned his Red Seal in iron work, the
first deaf person in Canada with this honor.
So far he has worked with steel at a museum
building, a convention center and a college
building.
-- a dumb request asked of a famous deaf person
Marlee Matlin is one of the best actresses
in the world, either deaf or hearing. It was a
big insult to her - when a filmmaker wanted
to hire her - not to play a movie role, but
to teach a hearing actress to play a deaf role!
It took place about 25 years ago. When asked
about it recently, Jane Campion, the filmmaker
that planned that past "deaf" role, refused
to respond for comment. Why? Very embarrassed
to be reminded about it, probably!
