-- a refusal with a deaf irony
A deaf man has filed a no-interpreter lawsuit against
a medical center in New Orleans. This is nothing new
since we read all about these new no-interpreter
lawsuits coming up almost every day from everywhere
in USA. But that New Orleans lawsuit has an irony.
It is that the deaf man needed an operation on his
hand that has been hurting him. Hands are very important
for the deaf because of sign language communications.
No hands, communications is impossible. So, no
interpreter for a hand operation is cruel! For a

-- deaf waiter mistakes
Past DeafDigest ran a story on Noah Wimberly, a
successful deaf waiter, who worked for ten
years serving on tables. Did he make these
waiter mistakes? He said that while he was
new, he confused cheese enchilades with
chicken enchilades. He has since then learned
to know exactly what the patron wanted. Other
mistakes? Noah said just one or two during his
career as a waiter. Hearing waiters make more
mistakes than him!
-- another deaf irony tale re deafblind
a deaf-blind advocate attended a community
meeting. He was with an interpreter and was
able to participate in community discussions
and issues. He was happy about it. But he was
unhappy about one other thing - he just voted
in the Presidential primary, and there was no
interpreter for him!
