-- Adham Talaat and the NFL draft
Gallaudet’s Adham Talaat will find out this weekend if he is drafted by
a NFL team or at least given a free agent contract. Two previous Gallaudet
athletes – Ronda Jo Miller, women’s basketball and Tony Tatum, football,
both had hopes but were not drafted. They, however, played professionally,
but not on the big time level. Over 20 NFL scouts already know about Adham.
The reality is that CBSSports does not rank Adham among the top 1,000
prospects. But CBSSports has been wrong many times on many draft prospects.
We will see.
-- deaf person getting two college degrees at the same time
There was a story about a 16-Year-Old girl graduating from high school and
college at the same time. Amazing? Yes, but she was not the first one.
Famed deaf attorney Lowell Moyers earned two college degrees at the same
time – a bachelors’ from one college and a masters’ from another college,
both in the Chicago area. That was about 55-60 years ago and he got away
with it. When both colleges realized it was happening, they passed new rules
to prevent this from happening again!
-- agency don’t know how to find ASL interpreter
Do government agencies know where to find ASL interpreters? They should
But many don’t. This was the survey that took place in Maine recently.
These agencies know where to find foreign language interpreters – but ask
them to find ASL interpreters, and they can’t! Why? These agencies do not
share information with each other.
