-- short life of a deaf device invented by a deaf inventor
Thomas A. Edison, who was deaf, developed a one-man movie
machine, called the kinetoscope. It was made available
to the public in 1895. While the moving pictures came
with sounds, deaf people could follow the action easily.
It was very popular at the beginning but faded away -
not because of silent movies, but because there were no
spare parts to fix the broken machines! A picture is at:

-- hearing hate having deaf employees
True or not true that hearing people hate having deaf
employees? Getinet Haile, a British professor
of industrial economics at Nottingham University,
wrote a paper saying that hearing people hate their
jobs because deaf employees are around! Does
DeafDigest editor believe Getinet Haile? No!
-- a puzzling reason for free hearing aids
In India, 6,000 hearing aids were distributed
free in one day. Why? The India Ministry of
Social Justice and Empowerment wanted to break
a record in the Guinness Book of World Records
on most free hearing aids distributed in one day.
It is puzzling because a deaf person must be
fitted with the right hearing aid, and he
may not like using the wrong hearing aid!
It is like wearing a wrong eyeglasses.
