-- Dunkin Donuts bad for deaf
The beloved Dunkin Donuts chain bad for the deaf? Well,
three years ago, that donut and coffee chain fired a
late-deafened manager for only one reason - her deafness!
She has filed a lawsuit. DeafDigest does not know what
has become of that lawsuit. Anyway, just recently,
a regular customer, whom local Dunkin Donuts employees
know her, was refused service at the pick up window
only for one reason - she couldn't use the talking
kiosk. It didn't matter to the manager that she
texted her order in advance for a quick pick up
and that the employees vouched for her. The
manager said no, sorry! After this story went
viral, the Dunkin Donuts corporate management
apologized to her. A picture is at:

-- deaf-designed clothes at a fashionable women's clothing store
In the Minneapolis, MN area as well as by mail order,
Grethen House is a well known clothing store for women
that want good clothes. It has been established in
1953 in Iowa before branching out in the Minneapolis
area. Anyway some of these clothes have been designed
by Mona Thalheimer. She is deaf and has been designing
clothes for several decades.
-- ambassador honoring the deaf
John B. Emerson, the American ambassador to
Germany, has honored the German deaf with a
visit. He toured a Berlin neighborhood,
heavily populated with immigrants, and
stopped at Cafe Ole, to honor a deaf owner.
While he technically is not an immigrant,
his parenst are immigrants. This deaf owner
prepares coffees, desserts and short meals
for his hungry patrons. This is probably a
first - an American ambassador visiting a
deaf-owned business!
