DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, December 9, 2013   -- deaf husband in dispute with deaf wife over dowry payment In India in 2011, Rishi, a deaf man, married Khushboo, a deaf woman, Her family promised to give dowry. Two things went wrong. He told her he has a job, a lie as he was unemployed. She promised dowry but never told him her family was poor. Angry, the deaf man harrassed his wife every day over dowry payment. The harrassment got worse and the police arrested him. Legal experts say it is the first time it has happened in India.   -- background on deaf NFL player Derrick Coleman Some DeafDigest subscribers wanted to know more about Derrick Coleman who became the first deaf player to score a touchdown in a NFL game. He became deaf at the age of 3; played football at UCLA but was a sub, playing little. As an oral person, he does not know ASL. The NFL teams did not draft him but he signed with the Minnesota Vikings as a free agent. They cut him and he signed with Seattle Seahawks and made the team this season.   -- more on the deaf man fired from Domino's DeafDigest mentioned a deaf Domino's Pizza driver fired for not being able to answer the phone. Domino's system has 4 groups - the management, the pizzamakers, the front counter and the drivers. The front counter people answer the phones, not the drivers. Also, the Domino's web site says two things - Team members are treated fairly, and Team members respect each other and are free from harassment, discrimination and intolerance.
