-- end of lawsuit by a deaf nurse
Deaf nurse Shirley Parrott-Copus filed a lawsuit against
Terra State Community College in Ohio for rejecting her
as a student because of her deafness. This lawsuit
is no more. One week after it was filed, the college
offered her $75,000 ($50,000 in damages and $25,000
for her legal fees). She accepted. But who won
and who lost? Her legal team said they won.
The college said it was an out of court settlement,
meaning no one won. Anyway, she is going back
to school to advance her nursing career. Her

-- using deaf agency name in a scam
In a scam, an email was sent to members of a Deaf
Community, with a deaf agency name on the
subject line. It asked if their package arrived,
and asking them to give personal information.
If you are receiving this deaf agency scam
email, quickly delete it.
-- city colleges said they are disabled-friendly
Pune is one of the larger cities in India. The
Director of Higher Education in Pune said the
colleges are disabled-friendly. It is a
strange announcement because deafness was not
mentioned as a disability. The announcement
said there are ramps for the wheelchair users,
but said nothing about captions and interpreters
for the deaf! So, is Pune colleges really
disabled-friendly? No!
