-- a big nightmare at a Toronto restaurant
A big Deaf Nightmare took place at a Toronto
restaurant recently. A deaf couple entered
the restauant and were led to a table. A
waiter came over and took the orders that
the deaf couple pointed at the menu. They
waited about an hour for the dishes to be
brought to their table. Suspicious, they
looked around the restaurant and found the
waiter "hiding" in the backroom, not wanting
to continue serving the deaf. The couple
confronted the manager, who them ordered
the dishes to be immediately served.
The check was paid - but without the
customary tip!
-- agreement with Maryland and Kentucky prisons
The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil
Rights and Urban Affairs reached agreement
with the prison systems in Maryland and
Kentucky to give deaf prisoners their
rights, meaning communications and
interpreters.
