- deaf man offering $500 for a job

Brian Neill, a deaf man in Australia, has been unemployed
for a long time. So desperate he was for a full time job
that he offered $500.00 for any employer that was willing to
hire him! It helped because he received many job offers
and he is slowly deciding which job offer is the best.

- 7 year old serving as interpreter before
her own surgery!

Jessie Fox, Fort Dodge, Iowa, who is deaf, took her
7 year old hearing daughter for an operation at the
Trinity Regional Medical Center. The mother asked for
an interpreter, and the hospital refused. As a result,
this young daughter had to interpret for her mother,
moments before she was to be wheeled into the surgery
room. Not too happy about it, the mother has filed
a lawsuit.

- arrested for using sign language!

A deaf Briton was arrested by police officers
in Great Britain. What was his "crime"? Using
sign language to tell the police officers he
was deaf. He simply pointed to his ear, indicating
his deafness. For all of his efforts, he was
arrested and accused of making rude gestures in
public. The angry magistrate threw the case out
of the court and scolded the police officers
for making this arrest!

- the tough Academic Bowl at Gallaudet

Why is the Academic Bowl so tough at Gallaudet
last weekend and this week? Because some
school teams had to play 7 different games
with other deaf schools - without any time outs
or any rest periods in between. Makes the
Bowl much more tougher than what we realize

- Schools for the deaf in New York in worst ever funding crisis

Schools for the deaf such as Rochester SD, St Mary's SD,
Lexington SD, New York SD, etc are called 4201 private
schools. These 4201 schools receive funding from the state.
New York governor Cuomo wants to cut funding for these 4201
schools, making it a crisis right now.

In 1947, a law, called the Education Law (§4201), created
funding for these schools for the deaf.

The list of 4201 schools are at:
