-- a perfect business for a deaf person?
Is operating a laundromat a perfect business for a deaf person?
Possibly because customers come in with their laundry, put coins
in the slot and wait for wash to be done and dried. Communication
is not much, if any. Elizabeth Laffert, a deaf woman, has opened
up her laundromat business in Falkirk, Scotland. A bank has helped
with a business loan. People have said that if you can't find a job,
then maybe going into business is the best thing.
-- a deaf man was arrested for selling drugs without an interpreter
A deaf man was arrested for selling drugs without an interpreter.
This took place, not in USA with these ADA laws, but in Great
Britain. Bryan Finnigan, a deaf man with a reputation for selling
drugs, was able to communicate on his own while making sales with
hearing customers. He filed a complaint with the court, saying
he had no interpreter while he was arrested. The British top
civil judge threw out the case, saying he had no communication
problems during his drug sales!
-- #3 best beer in a brewery
Every year, a brewery in Crewe, Cheshire, England has a
contest for home-based brewers that craft their own beers.
For years, Ken Fisher, an Oregon deaf man, has been
crafting his own beer. And he goes to Europe to challenge
other home crafted beers in beer tasting contests. Just
recently, Fisher's Grateful Deaf beer was rated the 3rd
best out of 20 home crafted beers at the Crewe brewery
