DeafDigest - 09 September 2014

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, September 9, 2014   -- a deaf woman that forever changed history There was an article that listed 52 women that forever changed history. One of them was deaf - Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the British Channel. -- world's largest cabbage There was a contest to grow the world's largest cabbage. The winner was a deaf farmer from Great Britain (his name not known). He was asked to come up for an interview on a local TV news show. It was a disaster because his deafness prevented him from communicating with the newscaster, and there was no interpreter around!   -- FCC's response time How long does it take for the FCC to respond to a no-captions complaint? DeafDigest editor, wanting to watch a football game on TV that was not captioned, filed a complaint with the FCC. 22 days later, the FCC responded. Do keep that time frame in mind the next time you complain to FCC on a deaf related matter (captions, relay, etc).   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest to make subscription changes, go to http://deafdigest.com, click on the "subscribe" icon and follow screen instructions 09/07/14 Blue edition at: http://deafdigest.com/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 00/07/14 Gold edition at: http://deafdigest.com/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
