DeafDigest - 10 May 2016

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, May 10, 2016 -- a strange interview question What has become of deaf Ashley Fiolek, world champion motocross racer who retired from competition as a very young woman? She makes personal appearances, promoting motorcycling as an activity people could enjoy. At a recent appearance in California, she was asked this question: What do you hear having been given a life without the ears? Life without the ears? Deaf people have ears, same as hearing people! A picture is at: http://deafdigest.com/retired-from-competition-as-young-person/   -- a question for RIT A question for RIT! It was announced yesterday that RIT president Bill Destler will retire at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year. NTID director Gerard Buckley reports to Destler. Will RIT consider hiring a deaf person for the RIT presidency? A case in point, the late Al Van Nevel, a deaf man, was offered a job teaching accounting at NTID. He asked if he could also have the opportunity to teach accounting at RIT. The offer quickly was withdrawn. Does RIT think deaf can't function at 8 other colleges on the sprawling Rochester campus?   -- a surprise moment by Deafness Ambassador We pretty much can say that Nyle DiMarco is the world's #1 Deafness Ambassador. Anyway he threw a surprise at those watching him on TV. During his dance performance last night, the music stopped, but he and his dance team continued to dance. Hearing dancers must have music; deaf dancers don't!   Latest deaf jobs: http://deafdigest.com/category/jobs/ Barry's collections of past articles (with today's update) -- statistics, before computers http://deafdigest.com/collections/barrys-collections/ 05/08/16 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
