-- a deaf person in the White House
Leah Katz-Hernandez, who is deaf, served under
Obama as ROTUS (Receptionist of the United States).
Her job was to usher visitors to their appointments
with the President. She is no longer in that
position. Did she resign or was fired? Do keep in
mind that White House employees are at-will, meaning
the president can hire and fire anyone. If she was
fired, it is no shame because many other outstanding
White House and high level federal executives have
also been fired. A picture is at:

-- white board in the court room
A deaf woman was in the court room to testify
against a criminal that attacked her. She
does not use sign language. As a result,
her hearing son wrote on the white board
the court proceedings. It could not
happen in USA, but happened in Great
Britain.
-- important day in Ann Arbor on July 1st
July 1st should be an important day for the
deaf in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The city passed
a new law, effective July 1st that captions
be turned on TV sets in businesses that serve
the public - meaning bars, restaurants,
hotel lobbies, etc. Not too long time ago,
Portland, Oregon required the same thing.
