DeafDigest Mid-Week edition - May 10, 2017   -- a deaf person in the White House Leah Katz-Hernandez, who is deaf, served under Obama as ROTUS (Receptionist of the United States). Her job was to usher visitors to their appointments with the President. She is no longer in that position. Did she resign or was fired? Do keep in mind that White House employees are at-will, meaning the president can hire and fire anyone. If she was fired, it is no shame because many other outstanding White House and high level federal executives have also been fired. She does not use sign language. As a result, her hearing son wrote on the white board the court proceedings. It could not happen in USA, but happened in Great Britain.   -- important day in Ann Arbor on July 1st July 1st should be an important day for the deaf in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
