-- a big irony with Deaf Utopia
There was a movement to establish a Deaf Town
during the mid-2000's in South Dakota. The
town would be called Laurent, SD. The movement
didn't succeed for a variety of reasons. There
was an article that surfaced yesterday that
explained why the Laurent, SD movement failed.
The big irony - Deaf people cannot follow the
story because it is in voice! An interesting
picture is at:

-- a deaf CEO in India
It was learned that Archana Ampoules Pvt Ltd, in India, has
a deaf CEO. It is Alok Kejriwal, a Gallaudet graduate.
The company deals with packaging and raw materials for
the Pharmaceutical, Liquor, Food & Beverages Industries.
How was a deaf person able to get that CEO position?
It is a family-owned business. Apparently the family
had Alok promoted over the years until he reached the
top level. He joined the company straight after graduating
from Gallaudet. The company bio on the web site makes
no mention of Alok's deafness!
-- social movement in college football, Gallaudet's big role
The turmoil at University of Missouri seems to have
ended as the football team had a big role in ousting
the president (and the chancellor). Gallaudet?
When the Gallaudet board of trustees selected an
unpopular person in 2006 as the new president,
everyone revolted. The Gallaudet football team
went one up - locked up all campus entrance
gates. No one could enter the campus for several
days. This led to the board revoking the selection
of the new president, and finding a replacement
president! Football teams at Gallaudet and
Missouri both had a mission in college education!
