-- two major movie chains lied, saying caption devices are fine
A deaf couple wanted to watch captions at a movie
theater. They went to two movie theaters (Regal and AMC)
and found out that the captioning devices were broken.
They confronted the theater managers. They told them
the same thing - there isn't a problem.

-- a deaf-friendly store frustration
Deaf friends tell you that a certain store
is very deaf-friendly. You get excited and
come to the store to buy something. And
you leave the store frustrated. Reason is
that a hearing employee, fluent in ASL,
quit his job to take a new job elsewhere.
The other hearing employees in the store do
not know how to deal with the deaf!
-- a deaf-friendly college stops ASL classes
ASL classes at Napa Valley College, a California
community college) is popular. Over 150 students
took the classes as part of their foreign langauge
requirement. Yet the administration has stopped
offering the classes, at least temporarily. It
is because almost all of the students do not
either become interpreters or teachers of the
deaf or professionals that work with the deaf!
The college is trying to figure out a way to
lead these students into these deaf-related
professions.
