DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, October 10, 2013 -- Two BIG deaf birthdays celebrated at almost same time For the past several months Gallaudet has been promoting its 150th anniversary to take place in 2014, which is not too many months ahead. And now this - NTID is going to celebrate its 45th anniversary. Happy anniversary, Gallaudet and NTID!   -- how did Matt Hamill perform last night in Brazil? Matt Hamill, the deaf ultimate fighter, fought Brazilian Thiago Silva last night. Matt lost - the judges voted 30-27, 30-27, and 29-27 against him. Matt said it was a bad fight that he had to reduce weight, saying it was his fault for going overweight in the first place, and that he realized he has disappointed his fans.   - a deaf person wants to become a flight attendant Could a deaf person become a flight attendant? DeafDigest has not known of any deaf person that has become a flight attendant. This is not to say they cannot. Anyway Shuki Assouline, a deaf Israeli wants to become a flight attendant but the nation's Civil Aviation Authority and also the El Al airline both said no. They are saying it is for safety reasons why a deaf person cannot become a flight attendant.
