-- Derrick Coleman wins praises from Seahawks coaches
Derrick Coleman has played in an official NFL game and
becomes the third deaf player in NFL history (Bonnie
Sloan and Kenny Walker). He was in 12 plays in his team's
12-7 win over the Carolina Panthers. He was praised for
being able to catch passes, as he caught 3 passes. A
newspaper praised him for his blocking.
-- 5 "hearing" babies discovered to be deaf
DeafDigest has mentioned a couple of times re the scandal
in New Zealand where the hearing testing screeners did a lazy
job of checking on babies' hearing (or deafness). Since last
year when the government ordered retesting of babies that
were checked by these lazy screeners, it was discovered
that 5 babies, previously certified as hearing, were found
to be deaf. Yes, these lazy screeners are no longer employed.
-- best deaf chefs to be judged by a well known deaf chef
In a fund raising event on October 19th in Phoenix, the best
deaf chefs in the state of Arizona will compete against
each other. The winner will be selected by the well known
deaf chef Kurt Ramborger. He recently competed on the
TV show "Chopped." Proceeds of that event go to deaf domestic
violence survivors.
