-- a struggle while watching a captioned/subtitled movie
When deaf people watch movies that are captioned/subtitled,
there is often a struggle. To watch the captions and ignore
the picture. Or to watch the picture and ignore the
captions? This was the comment made by an experienced
deaf movie viewer. Eventually he learned to "split his eyes"
by half-watching the captions, half-watching the picture!
-- closing of a school program
The Inter-generational Deaf Education Outreach spent
over millions of dollars in establishing a deaf
education program. Yet, it is now being closed
up, and considered a failure. Why? The parents
wanted their children taught orally and not
taught in sign language! It is not in USA,
but in Vietnam.
