-- loud telephone ringer or flashing phone signaler?
A hard of hearing British man complained about a telephone
that was not working. He contacted British Telecommunications
to send someone to come over to fix the telephone.
The British Telecommunications representative tried to set up
an appointment. The deaf man could not hear the loud telephone
ringing and missed the appointment. He has to wait two months
for another appointment. Yes, he was very angry about it.
DeafDigest wonders why he didn't use the flashing phone
signaler? Very hard to miss a flashing phone signaler unless
the person is in another room! Maybe hard of hearing people
prefer loud ringer than a flashing signaler?
-- a controversial "Justin Bieber" tweet sent to a deaf person
Jarred Cosart, not deaf, is the best pitcher with the Houston
Astros major league team. His friend is Tyson Gillies, who
is deaf, and plays baseball for a Philadelphia Phillies
minor league team. Cosart sent Gillies a tweet, insulting
Justin Bieber. That tweet, originally for Gillies, became
public, embarrassing Cosart. He removed the tweet and
apologized for the comment. Gillies is not involved.
Anyway, Cosart, Gillies and Bieber are all from Canada!
Gillies has played a long time in the minor leagues
and is hoping to make it with the Phillies this season
or next season as the next deaf major leaguer.
-- video phone used by deaf to scam deaf friends
Be very careful when you get a video phone call from
a deaf person that promises you easy money, making
you rich quickly. It has been going on right now
in Ohio and North Carolina, and the police detectives
are looking into the case. Just remember if one promises
easy money, it is always false! Just hang up on the
video phone.
