-- two big deaf relay news
In the same day there were two big deaf relay news.
The new president of Purple is Robert Rae. Does he
have a deafness background? No. The second news is
that Z (CSDVRS) has been sold to Kinderhook, a private
equity firm. Again, any deafness background? No.
Both news good or bad for us? Dunno!
-- reason state may want Texas SD land
Deaf people in Texas are very angry because
of a Senate budget hearing discussing what
to do with Texas School for the Deaf. It
sits on the most valuable piece of property
in Austin, possibly valued into billions of
dollars. Could the school be moved? California
School for the Deaf moved twice before settling
in Fremont. Lexington School for the Deaf moved
from Manhattan to Queens. Most likely no
decision will be made for several years.
-- a sad irony with an organization founded by deaf
The Girl Scouts is a big organization. It was
founded by a deaf woman, Juliette Low. And what
is the irony? It discriminated against a deaf
girl that wanted to join! For almost three years,
the deaf girl was not allowed to join, much to
the anger of her mother. By the time the deaf
girl was allowed to join, she lost interest!
