-- a shopping center forgets a deaf office
The Deaf Aotearoa Business and Services in New Zealand
is located at the Westfield Shopping Centre in the
city of Manukau. A fire alarm went off at the
shopping center; shoppers and store employees were
evacuated - except - for the deaf employees at the
Deaf Center! The shopping center office is
very embarrassed about it after being scolded
by the New Zealand Fire Service.
-- another nation opens its first deaf restaurant
More and more nations have been opening up deaf restaurants.
The latest nation is New Zealand. This restaurant, in
Wellington, is part of the CQ Hotels chain. Hearing
employees have learned New Zealand Sign Language
in order to communicate with the deaf. The hotel
general manager said the deaf are not disabled, but are
using different (sign) language.
