-- What happened to deaf-blind hiker Roger Poulin?
Last month it was mentioned that deaf-blind hiker Roger Poulin
and his provider Roni Lepore had hoped to complete the 2,185
mile Appalachian Trail, that ends up in Mt. Katahdin, Maine
before the park was closed for the season. They were forced
to stop hiking just two miles short of their goal because
of limited time and lack of daylight. Roger will finish
up the hike next summer.
-- A deaf person on a TV dancing show
"Strictly Come Dancing" is a popular British TV show
that features famous people with their dancing partners.
It is like USA's Dancing with the Stars. Anyway this
British program has a deaf dancing contestant - Ben
Cohen who is deaf and is a famous retired rugby star.
What is his biggest fear on the show? That his hearing
aid will fly out while dancing!
-- Fake service dogs for the deaf
A big problem in USA is fake service dogs for the deaf.
Real service dogs are trained and certified. Fake service
dogs are family pets, not trained and not certified. Some
people try to take advantage of regulations that allow
service dogs in indoor facilities. These fake service
dogs wear vests and identification cards to fool the public.
What does the law enforcement people say about it? Most
of them don't care!
