DeafDigest Mid-Week edition - July 12, 2018   -- not just Neflix is guilty when captioned words are left out, people blame Netflix. People forget that Amazon, Hulu, Vue, Sling Orange, Crackle, Twitch, Vevo and other streaming providers also leave out certain words. Netflix is the biggest one and so easy to get these blames. A picture is at: http://deafdigest.com/words-for-hearing-not-for-deaf/   -- many do not sign up for the State notification system During emergencies (fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc) the first responders look at the notification system to know which victims are deaf, as well as with those of other disabilities. Does it always work? In one apartment unit, everyone knows that one resident is deaf, yet during emergencies, the first responders are the last to know about it!   -- told deaf cannot become doctors There are some deaf students interested in becoming doctors. Almost all of them are told they cannot become doctors because of their deafness. And many of them would not listen to doubts and eventually enroll at medical schools, pass their medical board exams and become doctors. One deaf woman Jiang Mengnan wanted to become a doctor but gave up after so much resistance. Instead she switched to pharmacy and is now studying for her doctorate in pharmacology.
