DeafDigest - 12 June 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, June 12, 2013 -- Deaf Bikers' cross country tour of USA Approximately 60 deaf bikers and 15 riders will be touring USA on their motorcycles. The group will travel across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. Some will ride coast to coast; some will ride part of the route. An outlaw deaf biker group? No way! They are respectable deaf citizens with good jobs and good reputations. They just love their bikes and love to travel.     -- Many people angry at wrong school district because of name-sign DeafDigest mentioned few months ago that Hunter Spanjer, Grand Island, NE, is a 3-year old deaf child. The Grand Island School District (NE) tried to force him to change his name-sign because it was a sign for a gun. Many people in USA got angry and sent emails, made phone calls and some threatened the wrong  NY school district with violence. The Nebraska school district and the New York school district both share the same name - Grand Island School District, confusing the angry people.     -- Barber Shop Club of the Deaf! Deaf club in a barber shop? Not joking. In 1939, a group of young deaf people wanted to form a deaf club. The deaf owner of a barber shop invited the club to use the room behind the shop. Over the years, this Barber Shop Club became the Buffalo Club of the Deaf. This club is still active with events every month at different location.     06/09/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 06/09/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
