-- cheating at the marathon to help the deaf-blind
The London Marathon, which recently took place, had a scandal.
Jason Scotland-Williams, not deaf, is a professional model. He
volunteered to run the marathon in order to raise funds for
an agency serving the deaf-blind. He did not run the full
marathon course of 26.2 miles. Instead he sneaked out during
the race, and re-entered the race near the finish line when
no one was watching him. After the race, the officials became
suspicious of his "fast" time, and disqualified him. As a result,
the deaf-blind agency did not receive the promised funds from him!
-- An evening of fashion with Houston Texans cheerleaders
As part of the NFL draft weekend, the cheerleaders of the
Houston Texans hosted an evening of fashion at a big
Houston-area automobile dealership. The dresses shown on
the runway at that event were all designed by Justin
LeBlanc. He is deaf. His gown designs were full of bright
colors and won praises from critics.
-- few captions on older movies
oldies.com is an on-line distributor of old-time movies -
these movies of forties, fifties, sixties and seventies.
In an email, a deaf person asked the oldies.com representative
why most oldie movies are not captioned? The representative
said "it is too expensive for these smaller movie
distributors to do captioning. And also, some of them
do not know what the label cc means and often have no
idea if their oldie films are captioned!”
