-- Americans refuse interpreters for foreign deaf
Are Americans in the habit of refusing interpreters
for deaf foreigners (because technically they are
not covered by ADA)? A while ago a Canadian
deaf woman was denied interpreter for her classes
at University of California (Berkeley). And now
this - a deaf Japanese woman, having problems with
the airport personnel in Hawaii, wanted an interpreter.
Her request was denied. Are Americans selfish about
not lending interpreters for foreign deaf?
-- worried deaf organizations tell FCC
Ajit Pai, the FCC boss, does not really reach
out to the Deaf Community. As a result, the
deaf organizations are worried that he would
not encourage captions on newer and better
TV and video high tech standards. This is
why these deaf organizations - Telecommunications
for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc., the National
Association of the Deaf, Hearing Loss Association
of America, the Association of Late-Deafened Adults,
and the Cerebral Palsy and Deaf Organization are
reaching out to him, instead of waiting for him
to reach out to us!
